Hut demolished

Pioneer Hut in the Southern Alps has been demolished after the Lands and Survey Department and the National Parks Board decided it was unsafe. A year ago, the hut was found to be in a dangerous position after the foundation rock on which it was built collapsed as the Albert and Glees glaciers each side of the ridge receded.
