Official report

The following is the official report of the inquiry into the running of Hilarious Guest in the Almac Potato New Brighton Cup at Addington Raceway yesterday:— “This horse, which began from 20m, was observed to be caught wide in the early stages, got to the lead, and set a very slow pace. It did not run on over the concluding stages and finished some distance behind the field. “After hearing the evidence of the trainer, M. G. Vermeulen, it was found that this horse had not worked satisfactorily on Saturday and the owner had been in touch with a veterinary surgeon for the horse.

He indicated to the committee that he did not consider it a good run. “J. W. Smolensk! was also questioned and, taking the over-all time and how the race was run into consideration, he did not think it was a good performance. “Taking all the evidence into consideration, the committee found the performance of Hilarious Guest was not satisfactory under Rule 70 (f), and it was decided to declare her ineligible to start in totalisator races up to and including May 7. This horse has only one further start for the season and this : was taken into consideration when setting the penalty,” says the report.
