Canty triumphs
The Canterbury squash team had a successful trip to Timaru at the week-end when it won the triangular tournament with Southern Districts and the new district, Midlands. Canterbury beat Southern, 20 matches to four, and Midlands, 18 matches to six: Its men dropped only two of their 24 matches.
Midlands were placed second, beating Southern, 16-8.
Lyn Sparks, convener of the Canterbury senior selectors, made special mention of the performance of John Christensen and John Knight in the men and Suzanne Davies in the women.
Christensen, making his debut for Canterbury, convincingly won both his games against Southern, and Knight won his only match against Midlands’ Kevin Leary. Miss Davies won two of her four matches and went to five games in one she lost. Kate Carpinter and Susan Wasley, playing in the top two positions for Canterbury, 'won all their four games. Both had real battles with Freda Walker (Midlands) before winning 10-8
