Two sides tie points

New Brighton and Belfast were the top scorers in “The Press” Rugby Centennial Cup competition on Saturday. Both gained 11 points, one off the possible for sportsmanship, and they each gained the full eight points Tor how well they played. The scoring was again generally high, with 12 of the 16 sides being credited with 17 points or more. Lincoln College was one of five teams to get a mark of 18 and it remains at the top of the table. However, the placings are a little confused as eight teams — those which have played their night game — are a match in advance of the other eight. The top eight, all of which have had four games, are Lincoln College 69, University

A 67, Albion 66, .New Brighton 65, Merivale-Papanui 64, Hornby 60, Shirley 60 and University B 58. The second group is headed by Burnside, 54, and then comes Marist 50, Belfast 47, Christchurch 47, Old Boys 46,. Linwood 44, Sydenham 44,' Suburbs 43.
