General wins libel suit round
NZPA-Reuter New York General William Westmoreland, onetime United States commander in the Vietnam War, yesterday won a round in his libel suit against CBS when a court ruled that a network paper on a documentary involving him must be turned over to his lawyers. A Federal court Judge Pierre Leval, ruled that General Westmoreland was entitled to the report despite the network’s assertion that it was confidential.
The JUSI2O million libel suit brought by the general stems from the broadcast by CBS on July 23, 1982, of a documentary “The Uncounted. Enemy — A Vietnam Deception.’.’
