PA Nelson New Zealand’s deepwater fishing fleet will be further enlarged next month with the arrival of a Japanese fish factory ship on charter to Skeggs Foods, Ltd. The Japanese-crewed Eniwa Maru would fish from Port Nelson bn a longterm arrangement,- said Skeggs’s, Nelson manager, Mr Bryan Skeggs. The 81m ship is about the same size as the two big trawlers imported from Britain by Fletcher Fishing, Ltd, and the Japanese joint vefiture fleet already run by Sealord Products, Ltd. The Eniwa Maru’s
scheduled arrival date of May 10 is the same day another Japanese fish factory ship, the Koyo Maru No. 21, will be officially renamed the Arrow and join the Sealord fleet. The Koyo Maru No. 21 was bought by Sealord from its joint venture partner, Hokuyo Suisan Company, Ltd. Mr Skeggs said his company had to charter the Eniwa Maru to increase its catching capacity enough to meet new deep-water allocations.
