Labour list
Sir—Much is being made of the new Labour Party leadership and it is little wonder that the new Left shadow cabinet has drawn caustic
comment from our Prime Minister. It is obvious that David Lange is to be sold to a supposedly gullible electorate as a second Norman Kirk. The Labour propaganda machine can be relied upon to do its job well for our talking socialists are masters at political organisation. There is now talk of an American type of propaganda machine and the hiring of a train, at a cost of about $30,000 to visit marginal electorates, is inventive. It is to be hoped that the new Labour Party is not basing its efficiency on the New Zealand Railways where modernisation is being resisted to protect staff numbers. Your correspondent, L. Westney (March 22) claims that our Prime Minister is in no position to assess other politicians at their face value as Mr Muldoon has proved an administrative failure. This is a change of heart for before election in 1975 it was claimed by our ; socialistic capitalists that MrMuldoon would be a dictator and that we would have “jackboot” government.—Yours, etc., L. J. STEVENS. March 24, 1983.
