Chess drawn
NZPA-Reuter Velden, Austria Grandmasters, Robert Huebner, of West Germany, and Vassili Smyslov, of the Soviet Union, played to their second draw in as many games at the world chess championship quarterfinals.
Smyslov offered the draw after his forty-fourth move. The game was highlighted by the early exchange of queens and the four rooks shcrtly after. Smyslov had a slight advantage in the latter part of the encounter, experts agreed. Theo Schuster, a West German chess expert, expressed disappointment with the performance of Huebner against Smyslov, a former world champion who, at 62, is Huebner’s senior by 28 years.
In the two games, Huebner, who was favoured before the tournament began, has not been able to pressure Smyslov, an excellent theoretician and position player, said Mr Schuster. In women’s play, Nana loseliaho, of the Soviet Union, triumphed over Liu Chi Lang, of China, in their fourth quarter-finals game.
