Pools win but extra work stint

NZPA London Twenty-two car workers who won $1,436,400 on the football pools, worked two special shifts on the production line at the Jaguar works, Coventry, at the week-end.

The men spent two days in London last week picking up their winnings, and decided to make up the time lost by completing almost $4.5 million worth of the expensive cars.

George Hall, aged 43, leader of the pools syndicate, said: "We are the finishing team, and nearly 200 cars were left unfinished because of our two days off. “If we had not come in, production would have stopped. We did not want our workmates to be laid off.

“After all, the company played right by us, letting us have the time off to go to London.”
