Franklin scores 135 n.o.

NZPA Sale, Victoria The, opening batsman,..Trevor Franklin, was the saviour for the touring New Zealand Second XI team on the first day of their match against the Victorian Country XI at Sale yesterday. Franklin, 135 not out, spent just over four hours at the crease and hit 14 fours to put New Zealand in a strong position.

The Kiwis were all out in their first innings for 235 and when bad light stopped play, a struggling Victorian side was five for 60. Apart from Franklin’s fine effort, the New Zealand team manager, Mr Martin Horton, was not happy with the rest of the team’s batting performance. “The next highest score was only 18 so we really didn’t do too well in that department,” he said.
