Assn sets sights for $2M
PA Wellington The New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association has set a target of $2 million to help New Zealand competitors prepare for and compete in the Los Angeles Olympics next year. Yesterday the association announced the appointment of Mr J. W. Lee as executive director of the appeal, with Mr P. M. Carrad as associate director.
Both are principals of Link Consultants, Ltd, which company will provide additional support for the appeal.
Mr J. T. Mutch, of Zealandia Associates, Ltd. will be retained as the fund raising consultant to the association.
The secretary of the Olympic association, Mr George Craig, said the appointments followed extensive advertising for suitable persons or firms to act as marketing director for the appeal. “Our target is $2 million which will be required for the preparation and attendance of our team at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles," he said yesterday. “Jock Lee is a former Rhodes Scholar who won a Rugby Blue at Oxford University. He is a director of three separate consulting businesses providing strategic planning. “Paul Carrad is a former advertising executive and is currently a member of a number of Wellington sports organisations.” Mr Craig said that a number of companies are interested in being involved in promoting the appeal. There had been a wide range of ideas presented to the association by a variety of firms and he was confident that the appeal would be successful, Mr Craig said.
