Churches to help Fiji
The New Zealand National Council of Churches will contribute at least $5OOO to Fijian hurricane relief. The Rev. Brian Turner, of Christchurch, director of the Christian World Service division, said that the Fijian Council of Churches was to meet today to decide how much financial assistance would be needed. "We have reserved $5OOO for the fund, but the Fijian
council has asked that we hold the money back until it can specify what it would be used for," he said. Mr Turner said that if the amount needed exceeded $5OOO the council would go to the churches for more. "No official appeal will be made." he said. Contributions can be sent to the Hurricane Oscar Relief Fund. P.O. Box 297, Christchurch.
