Former steward fined for theft

PA Auckland A former Air New Zealand ground stewart has been fined $2OO after being found guilty by a jury on a charge of.theft as a servant.

Graham Henry McClennan, aged 43, of Rapatoetoe, was fined by Judge Kerr after a trial lasting two days. The jury took about 3% hours to reach its verdict.

McClennan had pleaded not guilty to a. charge of stealing liquor, coffee, insecticides, and socks, the property of his employer, Air New Zealand, between July 18 and 27 last year. The Judge" said it was a shame to see McClennan convicted of a serious offence. The consequences mean loss of employment and income. He said there seemed to be a

degree of slackness in control of foodstuffs and the like at the airport in the time McClennan was employed there. He considered a minimum fine was an adequate penalty.
