Women’s cricket teams tie
The Canterbury senior B women’s cricket team sensationally tied with the Otago first XI in a limited-over match at Ashbury Park, Timaru. It was a meritorious result for the Canterbury side which is effectively the province’s fourth XI. Otago made 145 for six at the end of its allotted 50 overs and Canterbury reached that score with nine wickets down. However, with one run needed for the win, Canterbury’s last batsman, Yvonne Brown, was bowled by Jenny Hawkins. Hawkins, who took four for 19, represented the South Island invitation XI against the visiting Australian under 25 team recently. For Otago. Pauline Hogue, an all-rounder, scored a hard-hit-ting 58 and Ruth Clarke contributed 53 for Canterbury. Scores.—Otago 145/6 (P. Hogue 58. J. Hawkins 30 n. 0.. L. Phillips 11; D.
