Food up 6.7 p.c. in February year
PA Wellington Food prices rose 6.7 per cent in the year ended February 28. Details given bv the Government Statistician showed that food prices rose 7.2 per cent from January last year to January this year. The food price index, part of the consumer's price index. showed that fresh fruit and vegetables had risen 15.6 per cent in the year to February 28; processed vegetables. 2.6 per cent; and cereals. 12.1 per cent. The index showed that the cost of eating away from home rose 7.9 per cent. Dairy products and eggs rose 4.6 per cent and meat. 3.8 per cent. The index showed that the price of food had risen 19.62 per cent since 1980.
