Girls’ college celebrates
PA Nelson The Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, will open centennial celebrations for Nel ; son College for Girls today by laying a foundation stone for a gymnasium. Women from all over New Zealand have gathered in Nelson for the week-end and about 4000 people are expected to attend. The college was established in 1883 to meet a growing need for education for young women. About 50 of the initial 150 pupils were boarders. Since then the college has taken boarders from all over New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
