The Dimple takes wings for Air N.Z.
By J. J. BOYLE The Dimple, from Southland, and Sea Princess, from Canterbury, were flown out of Christchurch for Auckland yesterday afternoon. They have important engagements at Ellerslie tomorrow, The Dimple in the Air New Zealand Stakes and Sea Princess in the See America handicap. The Wingatui jockey, Ali Robinson, will go north to ride both mares. Tony Dennis, who took The Dimple north, will not decide
on the rest of his mare's autumn programme until after tomorrow’s $64,000 race. “When you are looking for weight-for-age races you have to jump around from one distance to another, and that can be unsettling for a horse," Dennis said yesterday. “But The Dimple likes a bit of ground, and we couldn't wave away a start in the Air New Zealand — McGinty or no McGinty.” If she settles well after her race at Ellerslie The Dimple could remain in the North
Island for the Awapuni Gold Cup, a race won last year by her stablemate and half-sis-ter, The Twinkle. The Twinkle has had some trouble with a flexor tendon since she won the Aluminium Stakes at Invercargill in January, but the Dennis Brothers hope to have her back racing before the autumn is over. If she shakes off the trouble, one that cropped up first when she was a three-year-old. The Twinkle, could be in action at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Easter meeting.
