Ellesmere cricket

In the space of just eight days. Lincoln High School showed the Ellesmere cricket competition that the youth of the region is a force to be reckoned with. Last week only a dropped catch in the final over of the match enabled the chamionship leader. Tai Tapu. to salvage a draw with the students. On Wednesday, the High School completed a six-wicket victory over Burnham B. Then on Saturday. the team devastated Southbridge A and seems certain to complete an outright win next week.

A principal contributor to the High School's success has been Greg Lewis, who followed a sparkling innings of 81 with a bag of five wickets in the match against Southbridge. Springston's Gary Scrimgeour was unlucky not to record his second century for the season when he was run out for 99 in his team's match with Southbridge B. And in the battle of the giants, the competition leader, Tai Tapu. batted well to be in a strong position to repulse the challenge of second-placed Lincoln. Leeslon continued its return to form with a solid display against Dunsandel while in the local derby at Burnham, the A side enjoyed a 104-run first innings advantage over its fellow club team.
