No general wage order, says P.M.

Parliamentary reporter

There would be no general wage order to compensate workers for the wage freeze, said the Prime Minister. Mr Muldoon, yesterday.

The tax cuts in October last year had more than compensated for price increases during the wageprice freeze, he said, at a post-caucus press conference.

The Federation of Labour and the Employers' Federation will meet the Government next week for talks on wage-fixing. The talks will also be meshed with policies for easing the economy out of the wage-price freeze.

Mr Muldoon said that the Cabinet economic committee would look next week at a paper drafted to go before the parties next week.

He would not outline the Government’s stance because it was courtesy to let the parties see the paper first, he said.
