Papanui’s softball win
A second innings batting rally by Papanui swamped Western Suburbs in a Dalgety Travel premier men’s softball match at Papanui Domain last evening. Papanui went through 11 batters to score five runs in the top of the second innings, a rally which was started off by two fielding errors of hits. In addition. Papanui’s pitcher, Colin Sutherland, was in command of the Western Suburbs batters, taking 12 strike-outs
from 25 batters faced. Three Suburbs batters hit on safely, and a further two made first base on errors, but only Alex Bennett reached third base, and that was in the bottom of the first frame. On the’ other hand, Papanui batters made base in every innings, but they failed to consolidate the initial score. Pitching for Suburbs, Tom Reihana took three strike-outs for nine hits and one walk.
