Foster home for baby
A couple in the Wanganui region have been chosen as foster parents for the baby abandoned in public toilets at Taihape two weeks ago. A Social Welfare Department officer, Mrs Merle Tattersail, said a couple, who were not identified, had been chosen to foster the baby, Matthew, with a. view to adoption. The couple had yet to see the baby, but Mrs Tattersail said it was hoped he would be discharged from Wanganui Base Hospital this week.
Now 16 days old, Matthew was a perfectly healthy, contented baby, she said. The department still had no idea who the baby’s mother was, but it was still hoped that she would come forward. “If the mother comes forward, it will enable baby Matthew to be told something of his background when he is older.” Mrs Tattersail said.
