Pay negotiations in order

PA . Wellington Stevedores in Dunedin will be able to negotiate higher wages after an amendment to the Wage Freeze Regulation announced yesterday by the Minister of Labour, Mr Bolger. “The amendment allows Associated Stevedores, Ltd. a waterfront employer, to conclude an agreement for working Gearbulk gantry crane vessels at the Port of Dunedin,” Mr Bolger said. The regulations can be amended when new employ-

ment relationships have arisen during the freeze, imposed last June, for which no suitable wage agreement exists. The amendment was a routine one and did not make any changes to the substance of the regulations, Mr Bolger said. There was an existing agreement Tor working such vessels at a number of New Zealand ports, but not at Dunedin. This was because the ships had not until now, visited the port.
