A compulsory conference will be held this morning to try to resolve the dispute over cleaners at the Christchurch Hospital Clincial School. The conference, called by a Christchurch conciliator. Mr Len Fortune, was too late to stop a 24-hour strike by cleanirig staff on the day shift at Christchurch Hospital, said the secretary of the Canterbury Hotel, Restaurant. Hospital and Related Trades Union, Mr G. D. Harding. The strike began at 10 a.m. yesterday. The strike was in support of four cleaners employed by Crothalls who .were dismissed by the new ' Clinical School contractor, the Vacuum Blue Ladder Company, which intends to use its own staff. A spokesman for the Hospital Board said that the strike had not had any serious effect. Burwood cleaners met yesterday and resolved to take industrial action today if the outcome of the conference was unsatisfactory.
