Wallace sworn in
George Wallace, aged 63. formerly a white supremacist. has been sworn in as Alabama's Governor, reelected on a racial harmony ticket. Mr Wallace, confined to a wheelchair since an assassination attempt in 1972, took the oath of office from his brother. Jack, an Alabama judge. Almost exactly 20 years ago to the day. Mr Wallace proclaimed in his first inaugural address as Governor that he stood for “segregation for ever.”Montgomery.
