Freak happenings in Halswell
Freak winds cause freak happenings, and many occurred in Halswell on Wednesday evening. • A cabin cruiser was thrown into a neighbour’s property. • Corrugated iron was left hanging from overheadlines. • A piece of timber 4in by 2in was impaled in the side of a house like a giant arrow. • Rows of trees were
bowled over like skittles. • Big trees were sucked out of the ground. • Roofing iron was spotted hundreds of feet in the air. • A car was blown 40 metres across a paddock, through a fence, and into a back yard. • Jagged glass was buried inches deep in wails. • Roofs and beams were ripped off.
® Concrete posts were snapped off at ground level. • A sleepout was turned round and moved 6m. • A trampoline was picked up by the wind and like a battering ram flattened a fence. ® Heavy covers for the Halswell pool were found paddocks away. ® Tree trunks were stripped of branches and leaves.
