Dennis Lillee available

NZPA Brisbane Dennis Lillee. Australia's champion fast bowler, is ready for action in the remainder of the one-day international cricket series after a three hour net session in Brisbane convinced an Australian selector, Ray Lindwall, of the speedster's recovery from a knee operation. "I watched Lillee at the Australian team's practice on Saturday and again on Sunday," said Mr Lindwall yesterday. “He bowled for an hour and a half on both days and looked fit. “He told me he considered himself ready to play and wanted the Australian selectors to know." Mr Lindwall said.

No changes have been made to the Australian team to meet New Zealand in Sydney this evening, but the team to play New Zealand in Melbourne oh Saturday is yet to be named. Lillee is likely to be brought into the squad of 12 at the expense of the Queensland fast bowler, John Maguire. Lindwall said he would inform Phil Ridings, the chairman of the Australian selection panel, of Lillee’s display of fitness after an operation in Sydney last month to remove bone fragments from his knee. Lillee said yesterday: “I bowled quite freely and I'm very happy with the way mv knee feels."
