Easy for Torbek

The former top sprinter. Torbek. returned to the city winning lists when successful in’the Dean Handicap (about 1600 m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

It was the New Zealand galloper’s first win on a metropolitan track since October. 1980. after which the Palm Beach gelding was treated for cancer around the eye.

His trainer Wayne Walters, said after the win'that Torbek. which beat Artitian by a length and a quarter, could be "riddled with cancer?' and may not have a long life

But he said Torbek was in no pain and would be turned out for a spell and brought back for the autumn.

The apprentice jockey. Darren Gauci. took Torbek straight to the front and dictated terms throughout.
