Four of the five companies are promoting popular and middle-of-the-road music and representing a range of local artists, but the other, a Wellington company, is offering a selection of traditional Maori songs and brass band music. A New Zealand Embassy official in Paris told NZPA that by attending this trade fair the New Zealand record industry was trying to get itself known internationally as well as sell its songs and music. "They are following the lead of the film industry who have acquired an international reputation by attending the Cannes film festival and Mit-TV festival."
