Jovartv’s racing career over

Joyarty has been retired. The Wingatui mare, seen above in one of her greatest triumphs, winning the Wellington Racing Club Handicap from Nearco King at Trentham last January, bled during the running of the DB Auckland Cup last Saturday.

The decision to retire her was made during a discussion between Brian Anderton, "her trainer, and Mr Neville Boderick, of Gore, who owns Joyarty with his sisters, Mrs Lorraine Lillecrap and Mrs Margaret Secratan, of Perth.

“It was decided to retire her from racing rather than risk a recurrence of bleeding,” Anderton said. Joyarty, a six-year-old by Noble Bijou out of Artiface, raced 51 times for 10 wins and 17 platings, including a second to Golden Rhapsody in the Air New Zealand

Stakes at Ellerslie. Her stake earnings amounted to $63,995. She received the winner’s stakes of $5OOO for the Galaxy Stakes at Riccarton on December 10, although this race was later declared void. — PA.

It gave examples of people so poverty-stricken that they had to sleep under London
