Skindiver recovers after ordeal

NZPA Brisbane A Sydney skindiver, Susan Docker, is making a good recovery in hospital after

surviving a 2Vz day swim through stormy Barrier Reef waters.

A Gladstone hospital spokesman said yesterday that Mrs Docker, aged 28, was very well despite her ordeal.

“She’s still very blistered and continuing to receive intravenous fluids to counter dehydration. However, she’s very happy and relieved,” said the spokesman. She will probably be kept in hospital for a few more days. Mrs Docker was rescued from Erskine Island off the central Queensland coast just as search teams thought she had died.

She had been swept away while skindiving near the island, but managed to ride out the currents by clinging to a marker buoy and then swam a couple of kilometres back to shore.

Without food and only half a fruit juice carton of water she found on the island, Mrs Docker had.to wait another day before being rescued.
