Arrest after stabbing
A man, aged 29. has been arrested in connection with a stabbing during a card game at a St Albans house at the week-end. He will appear in the District Court this morning charged with wounding with intent. The victim, Steven John Bird, aged 26. had a kidney removed after he was admitted to Christchurch Hospital
on Sunday with a 20cm stab wound in the back.. Mr Bird was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition yesterday. The police said that Mr Bird had been reluctant to talk about the incident, but police inquiries had established that the stabbing occurred during an altercation at a card session, said a C. 1.8. spokesman.
