Fine trial by Commissionaire
Special correspondent Woodville Commissionaire ran another good gallop yesterday morning in his final trial for the Trumps Manawatu Challenge Stakes tomorrow.
Working on the plough, which was in good order, Commissionaire strode over 1200 m in Imin 15.65. the 800 in 51s and final 600 in 38.65. Two solid gallops this week will have him ready to show up in the second leg of the treble tomorrow. Just a Devil and Kiwi Coobe ran 1200 m in Imin 20.85, the last 600 in 38.65. Neither is engaged tomorrow.
Celtic Spree and Avarow ran 1000 m in Imin 3.25, the last 600 in 38.95. Celtic Spree scored well in her Wanganui debut and should shine again in the University handicap. With Jim Cassidy suspended. she was yesterday left without a rider. The same applies to Saunter and Commissionaire.
Chameau Vite and Belamina worked stylishly over 1000 m in Imin 3.35, the last 600 in 37. Chameau Vite will contest the Eulogy Stakes, while Belamina is a lightweight in the Flying Handicap.
Lone Hand went 800, running the last 600 in 39.4. Payco worked well in pre-, paration for the Handicap, taking Imin 32.3 s for 1400 m, the last 1200 in Imin 17.9 s and final 600 m in 38s. It was a good trial, though he is likely to benefit from his race tomorrow.
Glacier ran 1000 m easily in Imin B.Bs, the last 600 in 40.55. Find Out closed 53s for 800, the last 600 in 38.85. Subiaco went 1000 in Imin 11, the final 600 in 42.45. Saunter looked well when she went comfortably over 1200 m in Imin 24.85, the last 600 in 40.5. She is in the President’s Handicap. Ambitious and Renhill clocked Imin 21s for 1200 m. the last 600 in 40.85.
