Casheimara runs a ‘winning’ trial

Special correspondent

Palmerston North Casheimara ran a "winning” trial for tomorrow's Visitors’ Handicap at the Manawatu meeting when she worked impressively at Awapuni yesterday morning, but .Margaret Bull’s mare is without her usual rider, Jim Cassidy, who was suspended at Avondale on Wednesday. Cassidy’s other first day mounts included the well fancied runners, Head Shepherd, Saunter and Commissionaire, so fresh riders will have to be found for those horses.

Casheimara worked on the course proper and ran 1200 m strongly in lmin 18s, the last 600 in 39.45. She had something in reserve at the finish and looks to have thrived since dead-heating at Otaki.

The best over the distance yesterday was Aychere which showed her appreciation of the fast ground. She ran 1200 m in lmin 16.45, the last 600 in 375. She is well and has place prospects at least, behind Our Flight in the Eulogy Stakes. She was all at sea in the wet ground at Otaki last week. Caucus and Gaimoss were in front of Sackett at the end of 1200 in lmin 19s. the last 600 in 395. Caucus is improving but might need another, while Gaimoss is a lightweight hope in the President’s Handicap. Diplomatic Kane was going well at the end of 1200 m in lmin 20s, the final 600 in 395. He is in good order for tomorrow’s engage-

ment after a last-start win at Wanganui. Sorry Sir was going nicely alongside Isle A Gree at the end of 1600 m in lmin 48s, the final 600 in 39.45. Sorry Sir will be hard to beat in the highweight, while Isle A Gree has first leg prospects. Head Shepherd was better than Jolie Femme at the end of 1000 m in lmin 7s. the last 600 in 39.65. Head Shepherd has a winning chance tomorrow. Zamazaan Star completed 1200 m in lmin 20s, the final 600 in 38.65. Idol of Corinda sprinted 600 in 37s and is forward for a fresh start tomorrow. The Wanganui candidate, Sandy Girl, worked well with Amathusia and they ran 1200 m in lmin 18s, the last 600 in 39.45. Aptitude looked better than Celia Leigh at the end of a dashing 800 in 48.45, the last 600 in 35.45. The stablemates clash in the Nursery Handicap and Aptitude might be the pick of the pair after yesterday’s gallop. Perlia looked ready for a good first-up run tomorrow when she galloped 800 in 50s. the last 600 in 365.

On the plough, Fantastic ran 1200 m in lmin 17.45, the last 600 in 38.45. The firm track will suit him tomorrow.

Chantilly Meg ran the last 600 of 1000 m in 40s and Perfecto took lmin 20s for 1200, the last.6oo in 41.45. Mr Magic and Decillion worked over 1400 in lmin 33s and Kore recorded 53s for 800,

the final 600 in 395. She is in the Eulogy Stakes with Noel Harris the rider.

Langtry ran 800 m in 525, the last 600 in 39s and she will be a prominent runner in the Summer Cup on a later day at Manawatu. The Spring Handicap topweight, Barkerson, was to work later. His trainer, Maurice Campbell, said that Barkerson is coming along nicely in a fresh preparation though the horse has not done a great deal of fast work. Campbell will ride him tomorrow.
