Photographic show

Scenes from the troubled London suburb of Brixton are among an exhibition of photographs which will open at the new Showcase Gallery on December 20. They are the work of Stephen Trinder, a young Londoner now living in Christchurch with his New Zealand-born wife. The exhibition covers photographs taken between October 1981 and 1982 during Trinder's visits to West Ber-

lin and the south of France. The section on Brixton took six months to prepare while Trinder lived there. As well as working to expand his own folio and touring the South Island, Stephen Trinder has recently 1 been appointed new manager , of the Showcase Gallery. . He hopes to turn it into the j major information and re- j source centre of photography , in the south, dealing with the ;

ever-growing number of young artists in New Zealand. Trinder, who is 25. went to Newport College of Art in Wales from 1977-1980. He left with a B.A' (Hons) degree in multi-media fine art. From 1980 to 1982, Stephen Trinder worked in London as a community artist, before joining the Brixton Council for Community Relations as publicity manager, graphic artist and cartoonist.
