High tides move wrecked boat
PA Wellington The wreck of the Taiwanese squid boat Yung Pen has moved about 100 m from where she sank in heavy seas in Wellington’s Owhiro Bay on Sunday morning. The boat is now on her side and has been bounced along by high tides, to rest on the wreck of the ..teamer Prospect which sank in 1931. Divers yesterday inspected the Yung Pen and salvage work may be launched. Meanwhile, the preliminary inquiry into the sinking continued hearing evidence from the master. The Super-
intendent of Marine. Mr David Young, said last evening that translation difficulties were slowing proceedings and he expected the hearing to take another two days. His report and additions by Ministry of Transport technical experts will be forwarded to the Minister of Transport, Mr Gair. The inquiry will also hear evidence from the chief engineer and first officer of the stricken ship, and. possibly from other crew and witnesses. Mr Young said he could not yet comment on possible reasons for the wreck.
