Fun day
A family fun day has been organised at Centennial Pool tomorrow to coincide with the 30-minute swim by the six volunteers in the Swim for your Life campaign. Families will be allowed to bring inflatable rafts, tyres, lilos. flippers, balls, snorkels and any other water toys. It is planned to get the inflatable raft and "sausage" from the Queen Elizabeth II Park pool. Activities will start at 2 p.m. with lolly scrambles, on the spot competitions and give-aways of pool passes, hydroslid’e tickets, ice creams and Big M. While the swimmers are doing their 30-minute stint, a
"big splash" competition will be held in the diving pool 'to keep spectators interested. After the swimmers have finished at 3.30 Father Christmas will arrive. The distance completed by the six entrants will be given about 4 p.m. along with the prize winners. People coming to the pool are urged to bring picnic lunches, barbecues and afternoon tea to make it a fun day. The commentary of the 30minute swim will be done by the Deputy Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Rex Lester. Music will be played over the pool's sound system during the. afternoon to provide some "atmosphere.”
