Detention inquiry
PA Auckland An immediate inquiry has been ordered into the detention of a Tongan girl, aged 14, in the Otahuhu Police Station ceils last week. Assistant Commissioner B. W. Gibson, head of the Auckland police district, said he was concerned about allegations made regarding the detention of the girl. “I expect an inquiry will take four or five days to complete as a number of persons have to be seen,” he said. The Auckland Committee on Racism and Discrimination says seven policemen were sent to the girl’s home last week with a Bench warrant for her arrest.
