Aychere works like winner
Special correspondent Palmerston North Aychere worked like a winner at Awapiini yesterday morning. The promising filly, which has thrived since running close in a consolation race at Levin recently, is top weight in the Grandstand Handicap on the second day of the Otaki meeting. Camille, which is engaged in the Tokomaru Handicap, also ran a good trial, while Perlia was another to catch the eye. She. looks a big chance in the Vance Vivian Handicap. Working on a fast course proper Aychere was better than Hyperion Star at the end of 1200 m in lmin 17s, the last 600 in 38.45. It was. good work by-Aychere which is one of this centre’s best chances this weekend. ■ • Volare ran from the 600 in
38s and he will be one of the favourites for the President's Handicap at Otaki.'A good effort could see him trekking north for the Avondale meeting next Wednesday. Secrecy is another likely to race at Avondale, where she will contest the open sprint She looked well yesterday when running 600 m in 365. Sovereign’s Ace and Royal Vain recorded the best time for 800 m, running 48s, the last 600 in 35.65. Sovereign’s Ace was operated on to remove a couple of growths from an eye. He is close to his best again and will race on later days at Manawatu. Desert Sabre ran from the 1200 in lmin 19s, the last 600 in 395, while Celia Leigh and • Esterina’s Ace sprinted over 600 in 35.8 s with the latter doing best at the finish. She looks very smart. Esterina’s Ace is a sister to Sovereign’s
Ace. Perlia was impressive running her last. 600 in 375. She is in fine fettle for a fresh start in the Vance Vivian Handicap and her work was encouraging. On the plough Camille hit out well from the 1000 in lmin 3s, going fast early then easing over the last 600 in 395. She is close to a win and could get it in the Tokomaru Handicap. Buckcharmer shaded Cause For Pride at the end of 1000 in lmin 5.65, the final 600 in 40s. Buckcharmer is in the President’s Handicap along with a stablemate, Langtry, which has done well since winning at Trentham. Upper Crust ran from the 1200 m in lmin 19s, the final 600 in 395. She has been working well enough to be respected in the Apprentices’ Handicap. Diplomatic Kane went
freely over 1200 in lmin 225, the last 600 in 39.65. He will have a track to suit him in the Vance Vivian Handicap. Nukumai worked from the 1400 in lmin 32.65, the last 600 in 41.65. Super Tai ran 1000 m in lmin 6s and Solitaire took lmin 9s for the same distance, the final 600 in 425. Proposal worked from the 1200 m in lmin 235, the last 600 fn 43 and Miss .Chance galloped 1400 m in lmin 36.55, the last 600 in 40.5. Fast Track required 42 for 600 and Warbon and Roman Faux ran 800 in 53.65. The Woodville galloper, Belmore, was at the track yesterday morning. He was given pacework on the sand. He has been on a course of swimming and looks to be thriving. There is a chance that he will run in the Avondale Cup next week if he makes the field.
