Mrs Wood sees changes
PA Wellington Major structural changes were necessary to ensure New Zealand's economic and political viability, said the president of the National Party, Mrs Sue Wood, yesterday.
“It is time we all woke up to the fact that New Zealand and New Zealanders have been protected and cushioned for a long time,” she said. The National Party organisation believed that the Government was moving fast enough to restore the ecom omy, and was “very much” behind the Government’s handling of the economy.
She said that the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, had reported in detail on the position that the Government was taking in the Marsden Point dispute, and the party executive had unanimously supported that position. Although it had not specifically considered an early election, the party had-, “some sense of urgency” because of its one-seat majority and its tight position with the Labour. Party in the polls.
