Caretakers await response from B.N.Z.

The Canterbury Cleaners and Caretakers' Union has decided to wait for a response from the Bank of New Zealand before taking further action in support of 10 nightwatchmen who will be replaced by an electronic card-based security system at the Christchurch head office building from about March next year. The union’s organiser, Mr R. Laycock, said yesterday

that after an “education exercise” on Tuesday when about 1000 leaflets were distributed, the union felt that the management should be given time to consider the implications of its plans to introduce the new security system. ' “If there is no reaction we may need to escalate our action. We have had offers from other unions which have connections with the bank," he said.
