Keys taken

Sir,—Would the head of the Christchurch police care z to explain .why the keys were taken from my friend’s car parked in a quiet suburban street last night and removed to • the Christchurch Central Police Station without advising the owner? Would he care to explain why the car was left unlocked after the keys had been taken. Would he care to explain why, when the police were advised that the keys were missing, they returned them to the owner, then snatched them away again when I had the effrontery to ask for an explanation? My desire for information was met by impertinence, familiarity and hostility to the point where I feared that both I and my friend would be taken away with the car keys and locked up. I also feared that the police would burst into my home 16 kilometres away and confiscate the keys of my vehicle safely locked away in the garage. Is this Christchurch or Moscow? — Yours; etc., GARY D. BULL. November 26; 1982.

[Mr J. F. Waugh, .Superintendent of Police, Christchurch, replies: “Although Mr Bull has written a . letter containing many allegations he has o'nftitted to supply the details which would enable me to ascertain

which members of police dealt with the situation. I am therefore unable to comment further.”]
