Promotion for air commodore
The air officer commanding R.N.Z.A.F. Support . Group, based at Wigram. Air Commodore P. Neville, has been appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Staff, operations and plans. Air Commodore Neville joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1955 as a navigator after serving with the Royal Air Force for four years. He has served as officer commanding the bases at both Ohakea and Auckland and as deputy commander of the New Zealand Force South-East Asia. He - was appointed air officer commanding R.N.Z.A.F. Support Group in 1979. Air Commodore Neville will take up his new appointment before the end of the year. He will be succeeded by Group Captain J. J. Gordon, who will be promoted to air commodore. ’Group Captain Gordon's present appointment is as director of resources policy within Defence Headquarters, a post he took up in 1979. Group Captain Gordon joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1952 and trained as a pilot with the R.A.A.F. He commanded the R.N.Z.A.F. base. Woodbourne. before joining the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation military headquarters in Bangkok in 1971. In 1973 he returned to New Zealand and was appointed ( commandant of the R.N.Z.A.F. Command and Training Staff College before taking command of the R.N.Z.A.F. base. Ohakea. in 1977.
