Capt. Champion re-elected
Captain A. R. Champion was re-elected unopposed as chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board at its annual meeting yesterday. It will be Captain Champion's second term as chairman.
Mr G. E. Wright was also re-elected unopposed as deputy chairman, for a second term. Board members voted to pay Captain Champion an honorarium of $7300, the maximum allowed. Captain Champion told the board that it was very pleasing to be re-elected, and he would continue to work hard for the board. ful. board members were told. The Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour, said he hoped that the Russians would make more crew changes at the port. Captain Champion said he had heard that the Russians had been very pleased with Lyttelton. Pr’ovedoring had been of a high standard. The crew changes were made in three. vessels last week. The passenger ship Nikolayevsk arrived direct from the Soviet Union with fresh crews. Almost twice the amount of cargo was handled at Lyttelton in October, compared with October. 1981. This year. 154.600 tonnes were recorded, well up on last year's figure of 84,500 tonnes, said the general manager. Mr J. A. McPhail.
