$71,000 in lottery grants
Youth groups have this month been given grants of $71,911, by the Lottery Board's Youth Services Distribution Committee. The committee’s chairman, Mr Murray Shaw, said that a record 120 applications for grants were received. Of those, fewer than half were approved because of the pressure on funds. Grants approved included — Marlborough: Maori Women’s Welfare League at Kaikoura, $2765 for equipment for its youth centre. Christchurch: Templeton Cub Group, $250; Warehouse Trust, $13,000: Russley scouts, $300; Christchurch Tenants’ Protection Association, $500; Old vicarage, Lyttelton, Ohinetahi Bay, $5OO.
