Carabao shrinks

The Philippine carabao (water buffalo) is shrinking at the rate of 20 to 25g every decade, and in another 10 years may no longer be effective as the beast of burden of about 75 per cent of Manila’s farmers. Officials of the livestock research division of the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Resources Research Division say that if the carabao goes down to 450 kg in another decade, the animal will no longer have the power to plough rice paddies and other fields. — Manila.
