The day in Parliament
PA Wellington A private bill, the New Zealand Trustee - Company Bill, sponsored by the Attor-ney-General, Mr McLay, was given a second reading when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The bill was not debated and was referred to the Committee of Selection. Mrs Ann Hercus (Lab., Lyttelton) gave notice of her intention to introduce another private member’s bill, the Investigation into Monopolies Bill. Members tabled six notices of motion. Ministers answered 20 questions.
The Fire Service Amendment Bill was introduced and was referred to the Local Bills committee. Debate on the Internal Affairs estimates was resumed and finished and the House debated the Statistics estimates.
Jt then moved on to the Inland. Revenue estimates but debate was interrupted by-the dinner adjournment at 5.30 p.m.
Debate on the Inland Revenue estimates resumed at 7.30 p.m. It was followed by debate on the Lands and Survey estimates which was interrupted by the 10.30 p.m. adjburnmant.
