S.M.P.S to farmers near $302M
PA Wellington Supplementary minimum prices payments to sheep and beef farmers rose from about $1.5 million to almost $302 million in one year, said the Government yesterday. The $l:5 million payment was made during the 10 months ended July 31, 1981, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Maclntyre, said. In the corresponding period a year later, payments to farmers, including part-timers, rose to more than $3OO million. Mr Maclntyre also said, in a Ministerial reply on the Parliamentary Order Paper, that S.M.P. payments to sheep and beef farmers were made only on wool and manufacturing (hamburger) beef sold; in• the 1980-81 period, i However; during the later 10 months payments were made on wool and all categories of export meat.
