Waitutu Forest
Sir,—Although possessing only a limited understanding of traditional Maori attitudes to their lands and forests I cannot comprehend what motives the Waitutu Incorporation may have for wishing to tear apart this magnificent remnant of the nation's natural heritage. Surely future generations will condemn the present owners and the Government if the forest is ruined. It must be within the capabilities of the Ministers of Forests. Environment and Maori Affairs to get together with the owners and negotiate a way of both saving the forests and satisfying those owners who may have had legitimate pecuniary expectancies from the exploitation of the forest.—Yours, etc., B. A. CALDER. November 10, 1982.
