Contractors may face penalties
Drainage contractors may face new penalties if they do not finish jobs on time, says the Christchurch Drainage Board. At a board committee meeting, Mr R. Stewart said that the number of late completion dates for contracts must cause work backlog problems. “It is an annoyance to the public, let alone the board,” he said. Lawyers were drafting a penalty-type clause for contracts, but another board member, Mr R. H. Arbuckle, said the board could be worse off if such a clause discouraged tenderers.
