Three face murder charge
PA Palmerston North Three men jointly charged with murder were released on bail when they appeared in the District Court at Palmerston North on Thursday. When they first appeared on November 5. on charges - of the murder of Norman Hunter Campbell, aged 25. of Lower Hutt, at Palmerston North on October 23. Judge Satyanand granted supression of their names. Yesterday. Tau Malu, aged
36. a process worker. Vailaau Pei, aged 35. unemployed, and Samu Tupai. aged 43. a welder, did not seek further suppression and their names were released by the Judge. After hearing submissions by counsel in chambers, the Judge returned to court and said that the three men would be released on bail, until the depositions hearing at the District Court at Feilding on February 7. Bail was unopposed by the prosecution and in granting it Judge Satvanand said that
each of the accused had ties locally and to the Samoan community throughout NewZealand, with extended family support and supervision available. The police had indicated that they had concluded inquiries into the alleged offence and the remand, until the hearing for the taking of depositions, was a very lengthy one. said the Judge. Each of the accused was remanded on bail of $3OOO. with two securities each of $3OOO.
